Plantforce establishes new Heavy Haulage division

Plantforce has invested in nine state-of-the-art lorries and trailers to kickstart a new heavy haulage division, offering a service to move heavy plant and machinery across the UK.

As an established Tier 1 Plant Hire provider covering the length and breadth of Great Britain, Plantforce is no stranger to transporting heavy equipment. The company has selected Volvo Trucks as its preferred supplier for this latest round of investment, adding a range of FL 4-wheel rigid beavertails, FM 430 8-wheel rigid beavertails, FH 540 6 3-axle with step-frame trailers, along with FH 540 and flagship FH16 750 4-axle with step-frame trailers to the existing fleet of trucks.

With the entire fleet being EU6-compliant and equipped with the Volvo Connect telematics system, Plantforce can effectively manage its fleet to maximise efficiency. Customers can also utilise a tracker system installed on all trucks to check the vehicle's location and calculate precise arrival times.

To reinforce this, Plantforce Heavy Haulage has CLOCS Champion and FORS Silver accreditations. However, the team isn’t stopping there – they are actively working towards obtaining the FORS Gold accreditation. Their commitment to compliance extends to ensuring all vehicles meet TFL, FORS, and HS2 standards, enabling them to deliver to Tier 1 projects. Additionally, investing in the training and development of the team is a priority, evidenced by all drivers holding qualifications in NPORS Loader Securer and Plant Mover certifications.

Safety has also been a key area of focus for the launch of this service offering, with all trucks fitted with audible warning systems, blind spot aids, and close proximity sensors. Additional protection is provided by 360-degree camera systems and in-cab cameras, as well as fall restraint systems that offer protection to drivers when they are required to be on the trailer bed.

Plantforce Heavy Haulage Transport Manager Ian Blackburn said, “I am very excited to be launching this division. Our team has built a real depth of knowledge in managing the transport of our fleet of hire machines, which puts us in a great position to use this knowledge to support others in moving their plant and heavy machinery – adding real value at a competitive rate. I am also really pleased with the units we have invested in. As tried, tested, and most importantly, trusted units that are well established in the market, we know we offer a reliable service that minimizes environmental impact.”
