Poclain 60PB Spotted

Talking about this discovery Mark said, “I couldn’t resist stopping and having a look at this when I was in the wilds of Stirlingshire last week. In a copse outside the village of Balfron I found this 1984 vintage Poclain 60PB which appeared to be in pretty good nick”. “Everything was either locked (or seized) but the controls in the cabin looked all in-tact. Fitted with a 4.5m monobloc boom and a 2.5m dipper arm (which was the usual fare for the crawler and wheeled versions) although sometimes a 3m dipper arm would be chosen”. “The machine is fitted with its original Dunlop super single wheels and tyre’s which was pretty much standard for all the Poclain wheeled excavators unless they were going into a scrap yard when we would fit twin solids on each hub”. Mark continued, “In my days at Poclain as sales administrator this particular model would have been overseen by me from originally ordering it on the factory to seeing it sold to its first customer. Getting the balance of how many dipper arms of 2.5m or 3m length was always tricky and consequently we were forever either elongating 2.5m arms or reducing 3m arms if we had a glut of them. (Strictly taboo now) but in those days we had an excellent welder by the name of John Gaywood who created wonders from his welding bay at the Hook facility near Basingstoke”. This particular 60PB model would have been one of the last of its kind since they were superseded in 1985 by the rather boxy and angular looking 61P (wheeled variant) and 61CK (tracked variant). The Digger Man Blog would like to thank Mark Gunns for sending in these shots of a classic Poclain "rubber duck" which is just crying out for someone to restore her to her former glory, it certainly appears to be in good condition for its age!
