Raymond Brown’s Drott immortalised in cake

During a recent Digger Man Blog visit to the company’s premises in Ringwood, Raymond Brown Group’s Communications Manager Kerry Smith told us how the iconic metal tracked shovel had been recreated into a fondant delight, adorning a cake which was made to celebrate the company’s 60 years of trading as an independent Hampshire business. The cake was one of the star attractions at a celebratory party held last December at the Southampton Football Club, where over 350 guests were invited to go back to 1953 and adorn period fancy dress from the time when the late Mr Brown first started the company. Like so many British company’s the Raymond Brown Group was established from very humble beginnings, with Mr Brown borrowing £30 to buy his first piece of machinery, a chainsaw at an auction in Salisbury! Since those early days the group has since expanded massively and today employs over 400 members of staff, in its various sectors including construction, waste management and quarrying. Kerry Smith has also very kindly shared some photos of the restored BTD-6 “Drott” outside the offices taken before the wooden structure was put around it, which gives us a much better view of the machine. International Drott fans will no doubt be delighted to see this fine example of a restoration. Which is a credit to all those involved in the operation. As for the cake, well we have featured a number of fantastic examples of digger related creations over the years, but I think you will all agree, this one really takes the biscuit!
