RM Contractors buys 11 Doosan DX-7 excavators

Redditch-based RM Contractors Ltd has placed an order for 11 new DX-7 medium-sized crawler excavators from Doosan. The order is being supplied by Doosan Authorised Dealer, T H White Construction, based in Stourport-on-Severn and comprises 10 DX140LC-7 14-tonne machines and a DX225LC-7 23-tonne crawler model.

Chris Moen, Managing Director at RM Contractors (pictured below right with Andy Chatham, Sales Director of T H White Construction) said, “To meet our need for new excavators as well as replacing some of the existing ones in our fleet, we decided to put a few different Doosan machines on trial from T H White Construction. We were very impressed by the Doosan machines, but it was the comments from our drivers that really made the difference. They love the new Doosan excavators.”

Medium-sized Excavators
The DX140LC-7 and DX225LC-7 are part of Doosan’s new medium-sized ‘DX-7’ range of 17 Stage 5 crawler and wheeled excavator models from 14 to 25 tonnes. Altogether, the new medium-sized DX-7 models are said to provide significantly higher performance in every area than the previous generation Stage 4 machines.

They combine enhanced comfort, increased tool carrier capability and novel operator assist technology, with new features to boost fuel efficiency, uptime and return on investment, with a focus on increased power, robustness and agility. Maintenance of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) has also been greatly reduced, with no maintenance required until the machine has operated for 8,000 hours.

The new DX140LC-7 14.6-tonne excavator is powered by the Doosan D34 4-cylinder Stage 5 diesel engine providing 86kW (115hp) of power at 2,000rpm. To meet Stage 5 engine emission regulations, the new DX225LC-7 23-tonne excavator is powered by the latest generation Doosan DL06V diesel engine, providing 129kW (174hp) at 1,800rpm.

Increased comfort and controllability
The cabs on the DX140LC-7 and DX225LC-7 boast a new, high quality seat plus a new 8-inch Doosan Smart Touch screen giving more information via a 30% larger screen, DAB audio, keyless start (Doosan Smart Key) & remote door lock/unlock, improved air flow for defrosting and air conditioning, eight LED work lights as standard/four more LED lamps as an option, and AVM - Around View Monitor with 360-degree cameras (option).

The DX225LC-7 is also the first Doosan excavator of this size to feature Doosan’s D-Ecopower virtual bleed off (VBO) technology, providing operators with higher productivity and around 7% lower fuel consumption per hour than the previous Stage 4 model, as well as smoother controls.

Midlands and home counties
As well as the headquarters in Worcestershire, RM Contractors has a regional office in Oxfordshire. Established in 1994 as a family business, the company has grown over the past 28 years to be one of the leading groundworks and civil engineering companies in the Midlands and the Home Counties.

RM Contractors provides site preparation and groundworks for some of Britain’s leading housebuilders. The company’s sphere of operations stretches from Shropshire, Herefordshire and the Welsh borders, down to Bedfordshire and Oxfordshire in the south and to Weston-super-Mare in the west. Chris Moen commented, “We primarily operate in the residential market for the UK’s top house builders and can deliver a wide range of services from groundworks, bulk excavations, roads, sewers, infrastructure and section 278 works."
