Safety on a budget with the Xwatch SS1

Safety on a budget with the Xwatch SS1

With the November Budget approaching and businesses expecting continued pressure on operating costs, many plant hire firms and contractors are looking closely at where money is being spent. Safety remains a non-negotiable part of running a fleet, but it doesn’t have to come with a heavy price tag. The Xwatch SS1 – Simple Safe One – offers a practical way to keep machines protected without stretching budgets.

The SS1 is a no-nonsense angular motion limiter designed for a wide range of hydraulic plant. It provides basic height limitation on machines where the full sophistication of the XW Series isn’t needed. Operation is straightforward and fool-proof, giving operators clear, predictable control. The control key can also be removed to set a permanent limit where sites or working environments require fixed restrictions.

By focusing on essential functionality rather than unnecessary extras, the SS1 provides an affordable route to compliance that suits everything from small contractors to busy hire fleets. It is also available as both a standard engineer-installed system and a self-install option for competent plant fitters. The self-install route has become particularly valued by hire depots wanting to keep machines in circulation and avoid delays waiting for external support. The unit is supplied with clear guidance, and once fitted, it delivers the same proven performance expected across the Xwatch range.

The SS1 is already in day-to-day use across a variety of fleets. Grassform Plant Hire Ltd is one example. Director Mark Dunning explains its role on their machines: “The system reduces risks associated with working near overhead hazards, improving safety for personnel and equipment while keeping us compliant.” It is a straightforward endorsement from a company that relies on predictable, no-nonsense control on site.

Another example comes from Anglian Plant, which has been running Xwatch systems since moving to the brand in 2021. The SS1 is used on machines including its Kobelco SK230 excavators. Managing Director Joe Paterson puts it plainly: “Safety is our primary focus; we wouldn’t be without Xwatch. Our clients have confidence in Anglian Plant, knowing we are proactive in best safety practices. Coupled with a liking for the very best customer experience possible and a modern fleet of machinery, we have all bases covered.”

As the industry prepares for whatever the November Budget brings, the SS1 stands out as a sensible option for upgrading safety without taking on unnecessary cost. It provides clear protection, practical installation choices, and dependable performance.

As Jemma Dycer-Hopkins, Sales and Operations Manager at Xwatch, adds: “Many of our customers are feeling the pressure of rising costs, and the Budget will only sharpen the focus on where money is being spent. The SS1 gives people a way to keep their machines safe and compliant without taking on unnecessary expense.”

The SS1 is, quite simply, safety on a budget — without cutting corners.
