SMT GB expands compact equipment division with Kioti UK acquisition
The acquisition of the Kioti UK distribution arm marks the latest step in SMT GB’s strategic evolution, positioning Kioti compact tractors, utility vehicles (UTVs), and mowers alongside Volvo compact excavators and wheeled loaders, as well as Dynapac compact surfacing machines.
SMT GB has completed the acquisition of Kioti UK, broadening its compact equipment division and adding a further 58 specialist independent dealers to its growing network. The move follows a period of rapid portfolio diversification for SMT GB, including the 2024 acquisition of AGGPRO and official dealer appointments from Unicontrol in 2022, Dynapac in 2024, and Volvo Penta Industrial in 2025.
While SMT GB continues to serve customers directly for heavy machinery and general purpose-equipment (GPE), its compact strategy is built on a specialist partner model. The acquisition of Kioti distribution rights reinforces this approach, allowing SMT GB to support a wide network of independent experts.
There will be no immediate changes to existing dealer structures and all specialist compact partners for the Volvo, Dynapac, and Kioti brands will continue to trade under their current arrangements. However, the acquisition enables SMT GB compact division to provide unified support structure across all three brands.
The industry will see the results of this alignment at the upcoming Hillhead exhibition near Buxton (23rd-25th June) where Kioti tractors, UTVs, and skid-steer loaders will be showcased on the SMT GB stand alongside Volvo and Dynapac machinery.
Ryan Hollebone, director of compact equipment at SMT GB, said: “Bringing Kioti UK into the SMT GB organisation allows us to align the Kioti, Volvo, and Dynapac brands and their dealer networks into one well-supported structure. Ultimately, SMT is here to help all of our partners grow their businesses.”
The acquisition coincides with the 25th anniversary of Kioti equipment in the UK. For the existing Kioti team and its customers, the transition promises the stability of SMT’s national infrastructure while maintaining established relationships.
Patrick Desmond, general manager of Kioti UK, added: “As we celebrate 25 years of Kioti in the UK, it’s the perfect time for our next chapter. Our customers will still deal with the same team they know and trust, but with the added weight of SMT’s infrastructure behind us.”
Through its compact equipment and AGGPRO divisions, SMT GB now represents a diverse range of world-class brands, including Volvo Construction Equipment, Dynapac, K-Tec, Unicontrol, GIPO, Jonsson, Terracon, Arjes Impaktor, and McCloskey.
