The Terex Titan from a different angle

The Terex Titan from a different angle

When it was first revealed at the American Mining Congress show in Las Vegas in 1974, the Terex Titan was without doubt the largest dump truck ever built. Measuring over 67ft long, 26ft wide and with a gross vehicle weight of 1,209,500lbs, the machine was unlike anything we had seen before. Designed to carry 350 tons of material, this monster went on to hold the title of the world’s largest dump truck in the Guinness book of records for some 25 years, until the introduction of Caterpillars 797 truck which had a capacity of 360 tons.

The Titan was donated to the Sparwood district municipality in British Columbia an area steeped in open cast and underground mining history by the Teck Corporation in 1993 following their takeover of the Sparwood Mine a year earlier. As I understand it the machines massive EMD 16-cylinder, 3,300 horsepower locomotive engine, was removed before the machine took up its residence as a permanent tourist attraction where it remains to this day.

So, without further ado, check out this great fly around video from Scott which offers a never seen before view into the giant body of the skip and also reveals that she is looking a bit rough from above from its constant exposure to the tough extremes of the Canadian weather. Enjoy!

The Digger Man Blog would like to thank Pushysix for this video.
