This is a job for a Big Float!

I have seen these amazing Big Float machines from Finnish manufacturer Remu, for many years now, around the machinery show circuit and I have often wondered if there was that much of a market for them. Then last week, when I was asked by my mother in law if I could clean out the lake with my mini digger, I thought wow, a big float would be ideal for this type of application. I spotted this one, which features a 14 tonne Hyundai upper-structure, at the Bauma trade fair in Munich back in 2010. A Menzi-Muck machine was suggested to me, but I fear that the heavy clay that is in the bottom of the lake could cause me problems if I was to venture in with a wheeled machine, this field was always wet and boggy and that was the main reasoning behind forming a lake there in the first place. But I feel it would be a great opportunity to put a Remu Big Float to the test. In these two photos, we see one of the smallest Big Float models, which features a Yanmar B7 Pro upper-structure, firstly on display at Bauma earlier this year, and secondly, what is possibly the same machine, shown sat in a pond at the MaskinExpo show in Stockholm in May. I am not sure if I will be able to have a demonstration machine for my job, but it’s been interesting researching & looking into the concept, and it has caused some interesting interaction on my @DiggerManBlog Twitter account.   Check out this video of a Big Float in action.
The big question for me is just how far out into the water can these machines go? I would be very keen to hear from anyone who has experience with these incredible machines.
