As we are all starting to focus on the massive equipment that will be assembled to impress us all at Bauma in just a matter of weeks, its worth remembering that the smaller kit is equally worth a look, and its something I will be focusing on in Munich in my role as an Earthmovers Magazine contributor.

It was no coincidence then that I stopped by the Tufftruk stand at the EHS in Coventry, where they had two new ride-on battery powered dumpers.

Among them was the ride-on 4x4 Con-BUGGE which has been specifically designed for concreting operations. The machine which offers an 800kg payload, is fitted with a lightweight but highly durable heavy-duty poly skip and high floatation tyres.

Tufftruk suggest that these articulated units offer an impressive runtime of 8 hours, and have a built in on board smart charger. Dual voltage charging is available either 110v or 230v. Power comes from 4 x 6v AGM batteries providing juice to DC motors 2 x 1400w /24v.

These units can be described as multi-functional as you can change the attachment end from dump body to flatbed very quickly. They are operator friendly with a galvanised fold down step and power steering by means of a handlebar arrangement, much like one would find on a bicycle. The well-balanced robust unit fits through typical doorways (885mm - 3ft).

It is my intention to get up close and personal with some of these in the future for an operating report, so lookout for that in due course.

In the meantime, checkout this video from the team at Tufftruk which actually features the previous generation all steel skip.
