When Digger met Promac

Many of you in the plant game will be familiar with the two men behind Promac, both Grant Linton and his business partner Steven Long, were key figures at the former Case dealership CRMS for many years. In fact I myself very nearly purchased a low houred Sumitomo SH120 from Grant back in 1998, before eventually deciding to go down the Hitachi route. It’s clear to see that since its initial set up in 2006, Promac has gone from strength to strength, hitting the headlines just recently with the largest single order for Doosan machines in Europe, which will see the company supply 216 units to L. Lynch Plant Hire Grant Linton was keen to tell me about the company’s ambitious plans, as he gave me a tour of the new purpose-built Promac premises which covers an area of 1400sq.m. Grant said, “We currently have 40 staff on the books, including office clerical staff, salesmen, workshop staff and mobile service personnel, we are currently running 10 mobile workshop vans, but we do have plans to increase this number in the future”. From humble beginnings when Grant was operating out of a spare room at home, this company is now heading for a projected £40m turnover in 2014 which is impressive going by anyone’s standards. Of course Promac are not all about Doosan, despite the fact that the Korean product has been stealing the headlines for them lately. In addition to Doosan Promac are also dealers for Bobcat compact equipment, Ausa dumpers, Rubble Master crusher’s and Montabert breakers, all of which play their part in making this a successful business. Outside in the yard there were numerous examples of machines which are part of the record breaking deal for Lynch, which covers tracked and wheeled machines ranging from 14 to 38 tonnes, including this Doosan DX160W wheeled machine which was being prepped by the workshop staff. One of the largest machine models in the deal is the DX380LC, one of which was standing proud out in the yard waiting for a quick hitch to be fitted. Compact radius models are also included in the deal with the 14 tonne class offering the DX140-3 model and as seen here the DX235LCR which is powered by a 6 cylinder engine offering a power output of 173hp/129kw. I often hear people say that Doosan are a bit like Marmite, you either love them or hate them, from what I witnessed at the Promac yard there must be a lot of Doosan lovers out there and this massive deal from Lynch proves that conclusively. We thank Grant and his team for their hospitality during my visit.
