A New Milestone for Komatsu UK Ltd

A significant milestone has been reached at the Komatsu UK Ltd facility in Birtley, in the North East of England, which was first opened in 1987, and now the first of the manufacturers latest excavator models has rolled off the production line, an achievement that just has to be marked here on the Digger Man Blog.

A New Milestone for Komatsu UK Ltd

Monday 15th September saw the completion of the very first PC220LCi-12 to be built in the legendary facility, which I have had the honour of visiting a few times over the years.

These new groundbreaking hydraulic excavators, that we first saw unveiled during Bauma in Munich earlier this year, have been long awaited by fans and end users of the Komatsu brand.

To mark the occasion, the manufacturer invited all employees and contractors to attend a company-wide event, which included a Q&A session with members from the management, providing valuable insight into the development of the machine and the company’s strategic direction moving forward.

I’m sure this was a very proud moment for all the employees at the Birtley factory, as I have always found that the staff working there are super passionate about what they do in this facility, and of the top quality products that they produce there.

It must be an exciting time at the moment at the start of the Dash-12 era, with more models set to be launched in the coming years. I’m looking forward to trying one of these out, but I may have to wait a while as I note that my esteemed Earthmovers colleague David Wylie, looks set to visit sometime in November, but lets see what happens.

In the meantime, I wish the whole team at Komatsu UK Ltd, all the best for the future with the new Dash-12 line up.
