Another batch of Bauma blasts from the past

Following on from yesterday’s archive Bauma shots courtesy of Liebherr, today we present a few shots courtesy of Ulf Boge who originally posted them on the Historische Baumaschinen Facebook page.

A trio of shots come from a rather cold and snowy looking Bauma back in 1971. The American built Hough (A division of international Harvester) H 400 Payloader was a large 10 cubic yard articulated wheeled loading shovel which was first launched back in 1964. The machine is seen in this shot with the company’s smallest offering the 5 cubic yard Hough HA.

We have featured the strange Pingon Sitting Bull excavators in the past here on the blog with the smaller 12 A model. At the 1971 Bauma show the French company displayed this much larger 18 A model which weighed in at 55 tonnes. But it is understood that this machine only ever reached prototype status and never actually went into full production.

Famous German company O&K chose the home soil of Munich to launch their first large mining sized excavator at Bauma in 1971. The 100 tonne RH60 which had a bucket capacity of 8 cubic yards was a sign of things to come from this historic manufacturer. Also in shot in this photo is an RD 7 dozer which the company made a small number of.

Last up in this batch we jump forward to 1980 and a trio of German built Demag excavators are being prepared for the Bauma show. Demag went on to be taken over by Komatsu and most of Komatsu’s large mining excavators today take their heritage from this famous German brand.
