Brushing up on your snow clearing technique

If the papers are anything to go by after a warmer than average October and November, we could be heading for a cold snap with some significant snowfall this year. Having said that the national press come out with that line every year, but you never know and maybe that much dreamt about white Christmas might just happen!

There is not much our Scandinavian friends don’t know about dealing with the white stuff. They get a lot of snow up there in the winter months, but unlike here in the UK where everything comes to a grinding halt they just keep on going. They are well geared up for it of course and seem to have a wide variety of snow clearing kit available at the drop of a hat. Long term readers of this blog will recall that we have reported in the past that Stockholm’s Arlanda airport has never been closed due to snow since it was first opened in 1962! stockholm Photo courtesy of  Airport Technology. Every possible piece of kit is mobilised to work on snow clearance duties in the winter months and savvy contractors often get called upon to perform road and footpath clearance work at a time when their usual workload maybe slowing down due to the inclement weather. In this video courtesy of swedengines on You Tube, we see a Volvo EW140C rubber duck fitted with a Rototilt tilt-rotator cleaning off footpaths, pedestrian crossings and bus stops using a hydraulic rotary brush in classic Swedish style.
