It’s a well known fact that the Swedes and indeed the wider Nordic regions are always way out in front in terms of excavation technology and innovation, as we have seen previously with tiltrotators which they have developed and used for the past 30 years and in more recent times the growing adoption of 3D GPS systems.

It’s a field I definitely need to get up to speed on soon, as if the day ever comes when I need to return to full time operating, at the current rate of uptake on these systems, I'm going to be left well behind, like some anti-technology luddite!

In the following video Ted Byland, a Swede who speaks excellent English, talks about his work as an excavator operator for Mark Design Uppsala AB. Ted has been using Leica Geosystems machine control for around seven years now. He talks openly about how the MC1 3D machine control software is so easy to use and how the system as a whole helps to improve his day to day work and speed up production safely with less need for additional men on the ground.
