Chinese kids get hands on with mini excavators

Long term Digger (Man) Blog reader and plant man Tom Aspin brought these photos to my attention and it’s a pleasure to share them with the blogs faithful readers.

During a recent carnival in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, China, youngsters were invited to try their hand at mini excavator operating. These excavators are not real machines, like we see in the UK at Diggerland venues, where young and old visitors get to drive real JCB machines, but they are simple electric models which have proven too be popular at amusement arcades and at fairgrounds in recent years. Apparently each ride on a machine cost $20 RMB (about £2.20 in GBP) and the carnival makes around $10,000 RMB (around £1,095 in GBP) from this attraction alone. It’s an encouraging sight to see youngsters actively taking an interest in the machines at an early age and something we could learn from in the UK, as we face an ever growing skills shortage of skilled plant operators. Thanks to Tom Aspin for sharing this material with us here on the Digger Man Blog.
