Classic Cat 621B in action

During a recent Earthmovers site visit I caught up with Lionel Whitnell in Colchester and during a lengthy chat I discovered one of his all-time favourite scrapers was Caterpillars 621 model.

On my return to base I set about looking for some video footage of one of these old classics in action as I know from feedback I receive a lot of our older readers enjoy watching the scrapers in action. 3450416 The Cat 621 was first introduced around the middle of 1965 as a replacement for the 619C model. Power for this single engine motor scraper came from Cat’s 8 cylinder D336 diesel engine which offered a power output rating of 300hp. Heaped bowl capacity was 20yd3 (15.3m3). The 621 has remained in the Cat product line consistently ever since and is currently sold in H and K series models. In this video we see a B series 621 getting a helping hand in the cut from a Cat D8N dozer.
