Classic Cats down under (Blog Re-Visited)

Our regular reader and Englishman Down Under Michael Bullock, was so inspired by our previous blog posts featuring old tractors that has been out on a walkabout in search of some old classics around the Perth area.

Classic Cats down under (Blog Re-Visited)
Michael had seen a lot of small Cat crawlers, graders and agricultural tractors during his travels, many of which are simply used as ornaments at the local dealerships yards. At one such yard, Westrac Cat, Michael spotted two vintage Cat graders parked in line with modern day Caterpillar wheeled loaders. These two graders look in fantastic condition too! In this shot taken at Emeco Plant Hire’s yard, we see a Caterpillar D9T in the foreground, and to the left in the distance we see tiny D2 model. Next up is a slightly larger D4 model, which has been lovingly restored by its current owners. Now here’s a bit of history in the shape of a Caterpillar 2 Ton model. These models originate from the time when Holt and Best merged forces to form the Caterpillar Tractor Company, around 1925. The 2 Ton was one of three models selected from the Holt range to include in the new Caterpillar portfolio. The 2 Ton remained in the range until it was replaced by a new model in 1928. In this shot we see another vintage but unidentified Cat crawler, which is mounted on a plinth at Orionstone Plant Hires yard. Also of note is the Cat 990H wheeled loader in the foreground, and a couple of 777G rigid dumptrucks. As ever we thank Michael for his input to the blog, and look forward to many more photos from his experiences down under in forth coming blogs.
