Classic plant pair put on a show at steam event

Here’s a great video I came across over the weekend featuring two classic pieces of kit from different eras.

This Erie steam shovel was first built in 1915 making the machine 101 years old. The machine was capable of shifting 500 cubic yards per day, during which time it would use 1 tonne of coal and 3000 gallons of water! It used to take a team including 1 x operator, 1 x fireman, 2 x banksmen and 1 x water/coal boy to keep this machine working efficiently which as you can imagine was a challenge at the best of times. When first sold it was suggested by the manufacturer that this machine could do the work of 30 men and 10 horse and carts. The machine is seen here loading a much later, but still iconic piece of kit in the shape of an articulated dumptruck from Norwegian manufacturer Moxy. This machine is owned by classic plant man Barry Cosslett who has restored this D16B model to its former glory. I think you will agree he has done a fine job with it.
