Crane accident woes

Trawling through the extensive Digger Man Blog photo archives recently I came across a couple of shots featuring some impressive failures.

If I’m honest cranes have never really floated my boat and they are rarely featured on my blog, but it has to be said they have a vital role to play in the construction industry and can be very impressive machines when in the right hands. In these shots however it appears that not all has gone to plan. In the first shot we see what appears to be an NCK Rapier that has suffered structural failure to its boom, possibly as a result of lifting the large tank that is now lying in front of the crane. In this second shot we see another NCK Rapier crane, which I suspect could be a Ajax C75 model, that has gone over while attempting to traverse up a ramp on the site. Also of note in this shot which possibly dates from early 1980’s are the 3 Poclain excavators in the foreground, a Scammell Routeman tipper, a popular truck with London’s muckaway boys of that era and a Caterpillar 941 in the distance. If you have any interesting shots please don’t hesitate to send them into the Digger Man Blog.
