Digger checks out the kit at the auction build up

The Digger Man Blog was recently invited to take a look at some of the items of kit arriving at Rockingham Motor Speedway in preparation for the first Cat Auction Services event in Europe on the 20th April.

Digger checks out the kit at the auction build up
Items of used equipment are now arriving on a daily basis at Rockingham which as many of you will recall was briefly home to the old SED (Site Equipment Demonstration) show. This large expanse of land will play host to the first Cat Auction Services unreserved public auction in Europe, which will be hosted by Finning on 20th April just after the Bauma Trade Fair has closed its doors. On the day of my visit a number of items of kit were to be found parked in a massive holding compound which is being added to everyday in the run up to the main event. RS27451_DSC_0748 The team from Iron Planet were on hand and keen to show me around a trio of examples that have already landed at Rockingham. First up was the Caterpillar 308D CR pictured above which is a 2008 model with 6,890 hours on the meter. This machine comes with: Fully Enclosed Cab, Air Conditioner/Heater, 1800mm Grading Bucket, Hydraulic Quick Coupler, Swing Boom, 2.20m Stick, Auxiliary Hydraulic Plumbing, Dozer Blade, 450mm Track Belts and is CE Plated. Colm Moran from Iron Planet was showing me around the machine and talking me through the company’s rigorous inspection process and explaining the company’s star rating system which visitors to the website are be able to see. RS27457_DSC_0754 On the dozer front I was given a look around this 2007 model Caterpillar D6N LGP this time by Finning Cat used equipment specialist Bev Walker, who was keen to show us what to be looking out for regarding track wear on such machines. RS27445_DSC_0742 This popular sized dozer comes with: Fully Enclosed Cab, Air Conditioner/Heater, 4.0m Wide, Semi-U Blade w/ Dual Cylinder Tilt, PAT Blade, Drawbar, Lever Steering Controls, Auto Shift, Powershift Transmission and is running on 860mm Single Grouser Track Shoes. RS27482_DSC_0779 An example from the larger excavators was this 2011 Caterpillar 323D L. This D series example which has 9,208 hours on the meter, was of interest to me as it features the Cat Smart boom feature and is also sporting the E series cab. RS27468_DSC_0765 This machine has also received a new coat of paint prior to coming to the auction. The machines list of features are: Fully Enclosed Cab, Air Conditioner, Heater, 2400mm Smooth Edge Bucket, Hydraulic Coupler, 2.90m Stick, Auxiliary Hydraulic Plumbing, Rear View Camera, 700mm Track Shoes, Boom Check Valve, Stick Check Valve, CE Plate. Look out for a series of videos on these machines over the coming days where we will go into more detail about them in the build up to this exciting new auction.
