Digger visits Finning Leeds

While I was out and about in Yorkshire last week I took the opportunity to call into Finning’s regional branch in Leeds to snap a few shots of the machinery in the yard.

The Leeds depot has been in operation for a long time and was previously owned by the old Cat dealership H Levertons. My guide for the day was the lovely Bev Walker who has been working for Finning’s for over 15 years and is a very popular member of the team in this area of the country. Following the obligatory up north “brew” we headed out for a whirlwind tour of the facility initially checking out a line-up of Cat Certified used equipment including Cat D6T LGP, D6N LGP and a couple of British built Cat 428F backhoe loaders. I was also shown this Cat 953C which a customer had sent in for a new set of running gear including tracks, top and bottom rollers and new idlers, plus a new bucket cutting edge and teeth. A nice brand new model of Caterpillars popular 312E excavators was also parked in the yard, this example also featured the optional dozer blade attachment which we don’t see that much of on these machines in the UK market. A number of machines had recently come back into the yard following the recent closure of the SSI steel works up in Teeside including this Cat 966H wheeled loading shovel and a Cat 740 articulated hauler. Talking of articulated haulers this latest Cat 745C model was undergoing pressure washing in the impressive fully covered wash bay facility at the Leeds branch. A new Cat 938M wheeled loader which is built in Carolina, USA, was being prepped for a customer and was expected to be off to its new owner following its PDI check over. Finning have a wide variety of demonstrator models available for customers to try out on their jobsites and many of these even have their own Twitter accounts so you can follow the machines progress around the country. This Cat 432F backhoe loader had just returned to the yard following its latest demonstration period. The machine was due for a quick wash & check over before heading out again this week. As is often the case at Finning’s premises a nice display of Caterpillar products awaits visitors as they enter the depot, the Leeds branch is no different with examples from the dozer, excavator, mini excavator and compact telehandler ranges on display. This was my first ever visit to the Leeds branch and I was surprised by the size of it to be honest. If I am up in the area again in the future I will be calling in again. I would like to thank Bev Walker and Dan Emmerson for the warm welcome I received on the day.
