Volvo’s A45's Perform in the Toughest of Conditions.

I came across this superbly shot video over the weekend, which was originally posted earlier this year, and figured it was worthy of a spot here on the Digger Man Blog.

I think it’s safe to say that Volvo Construction Equipment know a thing or two about articulated haulers, they were after all, one of the trail blazers of the concept from back in the 1960’s when they launched the BM-Volvo 631, which affectionately became known as the ‘Gravel Charlie’. This type of concept had never been seen before, and it would change the earthmoving world forever.

Since those days Volvo CE have become synonymous with articulated hauler design and manufacture, and continue to lead the way with these machines.

In the video below we are visiting Kühtai, Austria, which is 2,200 m above sea level. On this challenging job five of the brand-new A45 haulers were engaged on a project to expand the Sellrain-Silz power plant.

As you will see in the footage, the machines have been working in tough wither conditions, traversing steep slopes, and challenging alpine terrain with their 42-tonne payload on board, as they deliver materials for spreading further up and the job site plateau.

The trucks all have advanced features such as hill assist, cruise & downhill speed control, and Volvo’s Automatic Traction Control with Terrain Memory give operators complete command, delivering exceptional off-road performance, features that we were shown when we visited the ADT factory in Sweden, at the new truck range launch.
