Diggers Demo Expo highlights

The two day extravaganza for everything demolition related Demo Expo 2015, took place this year at J. Mould’s Reading Quarry facility in Reading. I went along on the opening day to sample a taste of the action and in this post I will share some of my highlights from the visit.

Held at its all new venue this year, it’s estimated that the show attracted somewhere in the region of 5,000 visitors over the course of the two days, which also included a family themed day on the Saturday. The event had a real demolition family feel which is hardly surprising as it’s a close knot community in the demolition game. The show stoppers were inevitably the high reach machines of which there were plenty on display, like the new Liebherr 954 which has been purchased by the Squibb Group. At the other end of the scale across on the Construction Plant and Machinery Sales stand the LiuGong dealer was displaying a new Liugong 385B skid steer loader which was fitted with solid tyres specifically for use in the demolition industry. Also of not on the LiuGong stand a deal was announced that Keltbray would be taking delivery of their first batch of LiuGong machines, consisting of 2 x 856 wheeled loaders, 3 x 922E and 3 x 925E hydraulic excavators. J Mould (Reading) are long term Hitachi users and on home turf they had one of their latest wheeled loaders on display on the Hitachi stand. Back on the Liebherr stand Total Reclaims Demolition had their new Liebherr 956 on display complete with a very impressive looking VTN C16000 shear mounted on the dipper, which had been supplied by VTN dealers ECY Haulmark. On the Kocurek stand there were a number of impressive machines which had been modified by the East of England based specialists, including this Hitachi ZX350-5 for AR Demolition which features a 21 metre 3 piece boom. On the Worsley Plant stand Wessex Demolition were demonstrating their new Volvo EC300LC fitted with Lehnhoff quick coupler system and a Rotar selector grab, which was just one of the range of attachments it was using to display the versatility of the Lehnhoff system. In addition to larger Doosan machines the Promac stand also had examples of compact kit from Bobcat on display, like the 1 tonne class E10 mini excavator, which was sporting the livery of Wembley based national plant hire outfit Flannery. Just next door and another high reach machine was dominating the Volvo Construction Equipment stand in the form of this Volvo EC380EHR model which has been purchased by Quinto Demolition & Dismantling. This show built on the success of the last event in what now looks set to be its spiritual home for the future. It was a real credit to the team who put it all together and I for one look forward to attending the next show.
