Grader with a difference

Recently came across a couple of shots of a motor grader which is unlike any I have ever seen before, so I thought I would share them with the Digger Man Blog audience.

Champion Motor Graders certainly know a thing or two about grader development, in fact the company built its first horse-drawn grader back in 1875 followed later by its first ever motorized unit. The company were to become renowned in this field, so much so that in 1997 the company was purchased by Volvo Construction Equipment with some production of the machines continuing at Champion’s factory in Charlotte, North Carolina. The grader that caught my eye was this Cummins 110hp (82kw) powered C70C Compact articulated tandem drive model that features an unusual front end loader attachment. This rare piece of equipment could well be a one off modification in terms of the front end loader, but the rest of the machine is the same as the standard grader model in the range. One can imagine it would take some operating, with the front bucket being mounted so far forward at the front of the machine in terms of visibility and indeed in terms of the turning circle of the machine! With the recent announcement that Volvo was exiting the grader market, Champion Motor Graders has returned to its roots as a family-owned business specializing in Compact Motor Graders.
