Hitachi is the star attraction at charity event

Chris Charlton, Ollie Moore and Chris Moore, who are all keen followers of the Digger Man Blog, were proud sponsors at a construction related charity event in aid of The Source Young People's Charity at Smith Dorrien House in Aldershot on Friday.

The main sponsors of this worthwhile event were Grainger PLC and Millgrove Construction, who set up the event with the aim to raise valuable cash for The Source Young People’s charity. The Aldershot based charity exists to make contact with and develop youngsters between the ages of 11 and 25. The team focus on those that are struggling at school, in trouble with the law, struggling with family relationships, or the homeless and most vulnerable youngsters in society. Through its work the charity really can turn young lives around which can only be a good thing for the town. One of the star attractions at the event was the digger challenge, for which Chris Charlton had brought in one of his Hitachi mini excavators, fitted with a specially adapted bucket with a spoon attached to its cutting edge. These digger themed events are always popular and the vast majority of people who rarely get a chance to play on a machine are often keen to have a go, in return for a small donation to the charity. A number of local celebrities were also in attendance including Mark Butler, Commercial Manager and former player for Aldershot Town Football Club and another former player Andy Nunn, who is now Head Groundsman at the club. Andy was keen to get behind the controls to practice his ball handling skills! These charity events, the like of which take place all over the country, provide valuable income for these hard pressed charities that do great work in our communities. The Digger Man Blog congratulates everyone concerned in organizing and running this event.
