Hyundai’s 52 tonner is a popular addition

During a recent trip to visit some of Ernest Doe’s customers, we called into the yard of Horsham based Les Searle where I was invited to take a look at their big Hyundai machine.

Les Searle is a long running family business which is engaged in plant hire, earthworks, transport and storage, but is probably more well known for its association with earthmoving which the company is engaged in on a national basis. One of its large excavators comes from the Hyundai stable, the 52 tonne class Hyundai 520LC-9 model, was sold to them by their local dealer Ernest Doe, one of the longest serving Hyundai dealerships in the UK.

On the day of our visit the machine was awaiting to go out to its next job which was planned to be in the Salisbury area. But for the purpose of our visit the machine was very kindly put through its paces on a large stockpile of tarmac planning’s that were heaped up in the yard area. The machine is powered by a six cylinder, Cummins QSM11 engine, with a power output of 357hp (266kw) and features all the benefits that Hyundai machines have to offer, in terms of reliability and extreme in cab comfort, I think it’s safe to say this machine this machine has been a popular addition to the fleet.

I had hoped to catch up with this machine and other items of Les Searle kit in action for a potential feature in the magazine. Hopefully that will happen sometime later this year, so it’s one to look out for over the coming months.
