It’s a Hyundai & Engcon treble for Kirk Hough

Cornwall based Kirk Hough has recently added another Hyundai to his expanding fleet of machines. The Digger Man Blog headed west to catch up with the machine in action.

It’s a Hyundai & Engcon treble for Kirk Hough
Kirk Hough has certainly endorsed the Korean built Hyundai machines and has been very pleased with them so far having initially purchased his first R140LC-9 model some years ago, he then added a R220LC-9A model, upgraded the first machine to a R140-9A model which is now joined by the latest addition a zero tailswing R145LCR-9A model, once again supplied by Hyundai dealership Molson's. DSC_0009 This new machine is being operated by Adam Olds brother of Ben who operates the R140LC-9A. He has certainly been dropped in the deep end as all of Kirk’s machines are equipped with Engcon tilt-rotators. Adam said, “It’s early days at the moment and I’m still getting used to how they work, but I have to say they are some piece of kit!” DSC_0003 Of course Kirk has been a keen adopter of the tilt-rotator concept and the Scandinavian approach to excavation techniques and has already made a Swedish inspired grading beam to fit his 22 tonne machine, with plans to make examples to fit the 14 tonners. DSC_0026 Talking about the tilt-rotators Kirk said, “There’s absolutely no way I’m going back to a conventional “rigid” bucket set up now, once you’ve used these and mastered it, there is no going back. For me it’s all about staying one step ahead of the opposition and I am already considering a GPS set up for the next machine”. Its highly likely that Kirk’s next machine will be a new HX model Hyundai and its one I look forward to reporting on.
