Just drop that machine there!

Some new accident footage is currently doing the rounds on the machinery forums and although the camera phone footage is of poor quality it’s still worth a post here on the Digger Man Blog.

A brand new Kobelco excavator, probably worth in excess of 100K, is being lowered into a deep shaft by crane in an unknown location. All appears to be going well with the lift and descent, until there is a catastrophic failure of the lifting chains which sees the new machine plummet towards the ground at an alarming speed! [youtube width="725" height="344"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jLtVSvl-ZU[/youtube]   The impact sees panel doors fly open and boom rams bending as the machine is twisted and contorted by the force of hitting the ground. One would imagine this would have been a complete insurance right off looking at the state of the machine post impact, the only positive thing is that nobody was injured in the incident.
