Mystery dozer on social media

A rather interesting photo has broken cover on the various social media plant and machinery sites over the past few days, so I figured I would post it on the Digger Man Blog and get some debate going too.

The shot appears to show a large D10 sized Hi-Drive style tracked type tractor which is branded with Liebherr livery and numbered the 776. Rumour has been rife for a number of years about a possible Hi-Drive development by the German manufacturer but this is the first possible sighting I have seen of one in the iron. The question has to be is this a genuine shot of a prototype machine or has some computer whizz kid got carried away with the Photoshop app? Closer inspection of the shot reveals features that are familiar to those found on Liebherr tractors, like the bottom rollers and final drive units. In addition the ripper looks very much in keeping with Liebherr’s style of fabrication. But there are also elements that look distinctly Cat in design such as the front end and ram mountings. As yet I have not heard anything from either company to determine the true identity of this machine, maybe this is just a secret prototype machine being prepared for a possible launch at next year’s Bauma Trade Fair in Munich, I guess all will be revealed in good time.
