Railroad kit remembered

Just had a dig into the Digger Man Blog archives this evening, and dug out this classic photo which depicts how rail work used to be done.

Railroad kit remembered
Back in the early 1920’s long before hydraulic rail-road machines were even dreamt of, things must have been very different for those who were responsible for operating rail plant.  At the time the most modern piece of rail equipment would have been the Type B Erie steam powered railroad ditcher, seen here at work in this promotional photo from Erie which is dated around 1923. As a former road-rail operator myself, I would be very interested to receive any photos of classic rail plant machines from the past for inclusion here on the Digger Man Blog.
