Came across this video clip the other day and as I know we have a lot of the old scraper boys who read this blog, I figured it might be of interest to you all.

The video from the Vehicle Channel initially focuses on the legendary Caterpillar 657 motor scraper which has reigned as the largest production motor scraper for decades and is something of an iconic machine in the earthmoving industry. The footage includes input from leading industry experts who explain the basic principals of scraper operation in layman’s terms so that members of the general public can get a grasp of just how these giant earthmovers work. IMG_2274 The footage then seems to go off on a tangent with an interesting story on how a motor scraper saved soldier’s lives in the Vietnam War.
