Scrapers up the pace down under

We do love scraper photos here on the Digger Man Blog and a couple have recently come flying into my inbox which I am delighted to share with our readers.

These shots came in from a keen reader in Australia and feature a couple of Caterpillar 637G’s which are part of a fleet of 8 motor scrapers that are currently working on a large section of the Pacific Highway in New South Wales . The Pacific Highway upgrade is currently one of the largest road infrastructure projects in NSW. It connects Sydney and Brisbane, and is a major contributor to Australia's economic activity. The scrapers are believed to be performing “pioneering” work, opening up the job in preparation for larger pieces of kit which will be joining the fleet in the coming weeks, including larger 651E motor scrapers and articulated dumptrucks, heavy hydraulic excavators and motor graders. It’s always great to see scrapers on the blog, as we rarely get to see them in the metal in the UK anymore, having been replaced on most jobs in this country by the ADT/excavator combination.
