“Stretch” Volvo ADT on display

Rumours of a 60 tonne capacity Volvo articulated hauler have been rife for some time now, with the odd secret shot appearing on the internet. At the recent Swecon Days event in Eskilstuna, Sweden, a concept version was on display for all to see.

The Volvo A40F FS 8x6 Concept Vehicle is based on the production A40F FS 6x6 model and has been designed to meet some customer’s requirements of the need for an ADT to compete with rigid haulers, in applications where multi-wheel drive is required. The add-on module includes a 4th axle that is steered but not driven and has been developed by an external partner in cooperation with Volvo. This 60 tonne capacity truck, which runs on standard A40F wheels (29.5 R25) measures an impressive 13675mm in length and the dump body alone measures 8900mm. One of these units has been undergoing field trials in Sweden and has already amassed 700 hours on the meter. A full evaluation of the concept machine is expected later this year. We thank Conny Kolsjo for this photo.
