Swedes as impressive as ever at MaskinExpo 2015

Having just returned from Sweden I thought it would be a good time to take a look at a few shots from my visit to MaskinExpo in Stockholm. I will be covering this event in a bit more detail in a future edition of Earthmovers Magazine but in the meantime enjoy these photos.

MaskinExpo is often considered as an essential pilgrimage for those in the UK who have embraced the Scandinavian approach to modern excavation and attachment deployment. Every year a good number of UK visitors join the thousands of Swedes at what is considered to be the premiere event of its kind in Sweden, to check out the latest innovations and developments. This year was no different, with long term Engcon trailblazer Eddie Warrener and his Staffordshire based mate Shaun Gratton, being joined by “Dream Team” members Ollie Kitchen and Rob Taylor, an illustrious group of owner operators who somewhat bizarrely, I never managed to find during my two days of touring around the numerous stands, prompting Rob to suggest that it was all part of a Swedish hide & seek competition! For anyone who has never attended the show which takes place every year at the Stockholm Outdoor Exhibition Area or “Stoxa” I can assure you it really is an eye opener to the way things can be done, if you are prepared to invest a little bit more money into your equipment. For many first time visitors it can be a mind blowing experience. As usual tiltrotators were fitted to virtually every machine on the showground with all major brands represented including Engcon, Rototilt and Steelwrist. The Swedes really are some of the friendliest and most relaxed people you could ever wish to meet and that is another aspect that I really enjoy about the show. The show has a great family fun feel to it and none of the over the top Hi-Viz toting H&S police to ruin everyone’s enjoyment. I was also especially pleased to see the Turkish Hidromek machines on the Swedish dealer Abandon AB stand where there was no shortage of visitors looking for a bit of stick time on the demo plot. As one would expect the machines are heavily “pimped” up to meet the high standards expected by Swedish owners and operators alike with masses of LED lights which are essential fare for dealing with the long Swedish winters. Another popular feature at MaskinExpo is the veteran working kit display, which I will bring a flavour of in another blog post later this week.
