Swedes enjoy a summer machinery party in Eskilstuna

Many of our Swedish readers have been attending the latest event in the Volvo Days calendar this weekend. On Saturday 14th June Swedish Volvo dealer Swecon held its Swecon Days 2014 business day at the impressive Volvo Customer Centre in Eskilstuna, the spiritual home of Volvo Construction Equipment.

With over 90 machines from the Swedish plant and machinery giants range of products on display there was something for everyone to see. Our friend Niklas Sjöstedt has sent in some photos taken during the previous days VIP guest event, which was held before the public display on Saturday. I have never attended any shows at this venue, but I am led to believe it’s a great place to spend a couple of days checking out the latest kit on offer from Volvo and in addition there is the option to get in the seat for that all important stick/wheel time, enabling you to evaluate the machines in a close to real life setting. One of the largest machines on display was the 70 tonne class EC700C hydraulic excavator, which one would imagine should soon be up for an upgrade to D Series status. Star of the show would undoubtedly have to be the new EC380E L hydraulic excavator, one of which will be making its appearance at the Hillhead quarry & mining show in Buxton, Derbyshire, sporting the livery of Coles Plant, from my neck of the woods, so expect to see that machine in a future edition of Earthmovers Magazine. Volvo of course is famous for the articulated hauler, items of which have been market leaders for many years. At Swecon Days the company displayed the latest G series models including A25G, A35G and A40G machines. For those with an interest in the demolition sector, this high reach demo spec EC380D HR machine was also displayed. Some of our regular Swedish readers including Robert Carlsson, Uffe Dahlman and Conny Kolsjo to name a few attended the event and Conny is seen below at the controls of the EC380D HR. Amongst all the new machines featuring the latest in design and technology, Volvo rolled out a machine from its past heritage in the form of this 1954 Bolinder-Munktell (BM) H10 wheeled loader. Of course there are many more classic machines from the company’s past to be seen at the famous Munktell Museum in Eskilstuna, definitely one for my tick box in the future! This same machine was being displayed at the MaskinExpo show in the veterans section in 2013 during my visit to Stockholm with Engcon. Always a delight to see these old girls in action!  Photo Digger Man Blog Archive. The Digger Man Blog thanks Niklas for sharing these photos with us.
