Water Tankers the un-sung heroes

Most of us who work on construction projects generally face one of two evils, mud in the winter or dust in the summer, with the summer months coming, in this blog I’m going take a look at the un-sung heroes on site, the water tankers.

We have all been there during long periods of dry weather, especially if you are an old school operator like me, who likes to have the doors and windows open. An ADT or road going wagon flies past you and in no time you are covered in a layer of dust! In those hot summer months it’s always a welcome sight to see the water tanker coming down the track emptying its contents on the deck and making everyone’s life on site much more bearable, whilst doing their bit for the environment too. And what an impressive sight they can be, in fact a water tanker drive past is often included in the display at Caterpillar's Malaga facility in Spain as seen in this shot I took from a visit there in 2011 as a Cat 730 shoots past discharging some of  its 6000 gallon (22,710 litre) tank. Another larger tanker is also present at Malaga in the shape of this Cat 773D which features a massive 13000 gallon (49,205 litre) tank. This example is a regular at Malaga keeping visitors dust free during demonstrations, let’s be honest, nobody really wants a face full of dust while watching the latest kit in action do they! Some versions of these water tankers are designed and built to in the UK by Bishop Stortford based company Articulated Truck Solutions, under the Hydex banner, featuring Cat exclusive, patent pending technology tanks which are available for all sizes in the Cat ADT range. In this video we see a Hydex WT30 model, undergoing field trials prior to being delivered to its customer.
