When Digger visited TC Harrison JCB Used Equipment

The Digger Man Blog recently visited Lincolnshire based dealership TC Harrison JCB and while we were there the company’s Used Equipment Manager Karl Charlton was keen to show us around and explain more about how they do things.

The majority of the company’s used stock is kept at their Lincoln depot, this gives the customer the opportunity to inspect their machines at one location rather than having to travel to several if there are more than one machine of interest. DSC_0003 Karl Charlton said, “We always try to present our machines as best we can with a standard format for the photos that we display on our website, we also have the ability to add a video walk round of the machine, this gives the customer confidence in what we are advertising for sale, we don’t hide anything, if something is damaged for example we show it” DSC_0001 The company also have the ability for customers to subscribe to their weekly used stock update email. One thing they don’t do is SPAM their customers several times a day which as we all know can be incredibly annoying. DSC_0004 The company recently launched www.tchjcbauction.com their very own online auction, the first of which surpassed expectations. The next auction ends at 14:00GMT on 11th March. Talking about this new venture Karl said, “Not only is this an additional way for us to sell used equipment but it is a way for the customer to purchase machines without the need of paying additional buyers fees etc”. “Customers can arrange to visit us to inspect any of the machines consigned to the auction should they wish & on purchase should any additional work or extra items be required or transport arranged anywhere in the world we can help with this also & quote accordingly” DSC_0002 “There is the facility for the customer to make us an offer or buy out (buy it now), so if a customer particularly likes a machine or needs it for a job before the end date they don’t have to wait for the auction to end & potentially miss out or delay a job” “We recently updated our website www.tchjcb.com which is our portal to the world, to give it a fresh look, to add improvements & give a better customer experience”. Selling, auctioning and how firms deal with used kit is something that is of great interest at the moment and it’s something I am going to be looking more closely at over the coming months.
