55 - Tonne ADTS for Gallagher

Following an extensive trial on site, Gallagher Aggregates has acquired a pair of 55-tonne capacity Volvo A60H articulated haulers for its Kentish Ragstone operation at the Hermitage Quarry near Maidstone. They will be used for hauling blasted material from the face to the primary crusher, together with some secondary duties around the plant.

The A60Hs feature additional 200mm side extensions and a cantilever tailgate, increasing the capacity of their skips to 39 cubic metres. Front spill guards have also been fitted to the skips, to provide additional protection to the cab and hitch area.

Operations manager Pat Gooney said, “The two new trucks are carrying out the same production of the three 50-tonne trucks they replace. We are already seeing the immediate benefits when it comes to fuel consumption and the savings on running costs, while maintaining the production we require.

“We are really impressed with the power of the trucks, especially on the gradients with the typical payloads they are carrying. The new arrivals are proving very popular with their operators too. The cab is extremely comfortable and has been well thought out in its design. The two-speed reverse and fast tip-and-lower functions add to the overall faster cycle times, and Volvo’s unique suspension system provides excellent load retention and operator comfort.”
