Back on site and in the seat

I was recently contacted by the team at Liebherr GB, who had kindly offered to put a demonstration machine into me, for a test drive report that will feature in a future edition of Earthmovers Magazine. The machine supplied to us on this occasion was a 22 tonne class Liebherr R906, I’m not going to say much about the machine in this blog post, but I know many of my readers and Twitter followers are keen to see more photos of the machine, so here is a little taster of what to expect in the magazine. I have to be honest, after a 5 week period of being out of the seat, it was a great feeling to be back at the controls again, in what is for me, my more natural environment, and it was good to get stuck into the task at hand with the brand new Liebherr. There was also another new piece of kit on site, in the form of a Doosan DX140LC Series III, which was also brought in on a self-drive basis. As I have reported in the past, the MJL Group are big Doosan users, and I myself was operating one of their older models for a 12 month period last year. The machine on site at the moment however, is the very latest model, featuring the company’s emission compliant Interim Tier 4 (iT4) engine, which offers a gross power output of 109hp (82kw). In line with most modern machines, this excavator offers a 6 per cent improvement on fuel consumption, but still offers increased power and speed. With the Liebherr demonstration machine now gone back to their headquarters in Biggleswade, I am set to be operating something else from Monday. As the MJL Groups workload continues to expand rapidly, there is talk of new machines joining the fleet in the coming weeks, which I look forward to covering here on the Digger Man Blog.
