Big Doosan Duck Has Impressed Currie

James Currie Managing Director of Currie Contractors has been in touch again to tell us that the machine has recently passed the 8000 working hours mark. James was also delighted to report that the machine has been a benchmark for reliability during its time on the firm, thanks in part to his main Doosan dealer Balgownie and their incredible service plan and back-up.

The machine is still being operated by long-serving operator Gordon Durno, talking about Gordon, James Currie said, “Gordon is very well respected in the plant game and everybody knows how good a job he does. Quite often he is the very last digger left on any site and loads up all the containers, reinstates the compound area and finishes any batter works”.

The DX210W-5 weighs in at around 21.4 tonnes depending on specification. This machine features the extremely useful two-piece boom and extra cameras. Currie’s also opted for the 10000 hours extended warranty package for peace of mind. Power for this Stage IV machine comes from a Doosan DL06P which regular Doosan fans will know is still a 6-cylinder lump with a power output rating of 189hp (141.2kw). This engine is an up-rated version of the one fitted to the smaller DX170W-5 and features Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) technology without the need for a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

At around 1000 hours the machine was apparently fitted with a Geith tilting quick coupler which has proven to be a great addition. The machine has generally been on hire to Bam Nuttal and RJ Mcleod since returning back up to Scotland, working on windfarms or substation projects.

James has been delighted with the reliability of the machine and says he will be looking to renew it again once it reaches the 10000 hour mark.
