Big Komatsu shovel heads North

The machine needed to be taken from storage at Van der Vlist headquarters in the Netherlands, to a quarry in Southern Norway. The large shovel had to be modified first in the heavy lift workshop at Van der Vlist’s Groot-Ammers site. The team of mechanics there installed ride-control, and central greasing and extra working lights were added. Due to the massive dimensions of the wheel loader, at 13.7m long 4.58m wide and 5.27m high, the machine was dismantled into 12 separate pieces for transport. A small fleet of trucks then took the journey north carrying the 12 different parts on a variety of trailers, along with 2 Van der Vlist site mechanics accompanying the loads to re-assemble the full machine once they reached the quarry. With the help of two mobile cranes, the Van der Vlist technicians built up the wheel loader and also installed a 360 degree camera on the vehicle. The powerful machine was then tested and inspected to before it was sent to start work in the Ilmenite mine.
