Bobcat wins another Red Dot Award with RogueX3

Bobcat has received a Red Dot Award: Design Concept for RogueX3, a fully electric, autonomous and modular concept loader featuring a new machine architecture. It is the second Red Dot award for the company’s RogueX platform, following RogueX2’s win in 2024.

The latest concept explores how future construction, industrial and agricultural machines could be designed, with a focus on electrification, autonomous operation and adaptability.

Reworked loader architecture

A key feature of RogueX3 is its patent-pending, rear-mounted linear actuator tilt system, which replaces conventional front hydraulic cylinders. Bobcat says the arrangement reduces mechanical complexity and improves forward visibility, while cutting the number of mechanical components by more than 50% compared with a typical compact loader.

The design also integrates the battery into the chassis, lowering the centre of gravity and creating a more streamlined electric drivetrain. The modular platform can be configured with tracks or wheels, a cab or open-station layout, different lift-arm geometries and alternative power systems.

RogueX3 incorporates real-time kinematic positioning, GPS navigation, sensors and cameras to support autonomous functions. It can also be operated remotely using Bobcat MaxControl on an iPhone or another iOS device. The concept further explores AI-enabled lighting to communicate machine status and intended movements to people working nearby.

Research platform for future machines

Developed by Bobcat’s Global Design Studio, Global Innovation and engineering teams, RogueX3 was introduced at CES 2026. It remains in research and development and is not commercially available.

Jim Breuer, Director of Global Product Identity at Bobcat, said: “Receiving this Red Dot Award recognizes Bobcat’s continued commitment to exploring the future of equipment through the RogueX platform. RogueX3 demonstrates what is possible when industrial design and engineering come together—transforming autonomy, electrification and modular architecture into a tangible vision for tomorrow’s jobsites. This recognition reinforces the power of design to give form to emerging technologies, helping customers envision the future potential of equipment.”

Joel Honeyman, Vice President of Global Innovation, Product Insights and Dealer Enablement at Bobcat, added: “As customer needs evolve and jobsites become more connected, we believe equipment must become more adaptable. RogueX3 explores how a single machine platform could respond to those changing demands. The modular platform is designed to adapt to different jobs, terrains and power systems—something construction equipment hasn’t done before. The result is a simpler, more efficient architecture built around the changing needs of construction crews.”
