Caterpillar adverts from the past

Talking to the Digger Man Blog Roy told us how he once worked for H. Leverton for about 2 years before joining Caterpillar UK direct, where he has remained to this day. Roy recall’s that the firm were a great company to work for and that he made some very good friends during his time with them. Roy said that he has always had an interest in anything mechanical and while growing up on a farm, he used to read his father’s old copies of Power Farmer Magazine of which he was a regular subscriber. Roy said, “I learnt to read with those old magazines and still have some copies of them” What follows are a series of scans taken from the Roy’s cherished copies of the magazine. First up from September 1953 and an advert about buying genuine Caterpillar parts from the 4 main dealers who were in business at that time, most notably Bowmaker and Leverton, but also including Scottish dealership Caledonian Tractor & Equipment Co Ltd, and the lesser known Fred Myers Tractor & Equipment Co, who served London and the South East of England. Once again a similar advert this time from 1955, bestowing the virtues of using genuine Caterpillar parts for your Cat built tractor. One year later and we see this advertising feature telling readers that Cat D8 and D4 track type tractors will be built in Scotland for the UK market from 1958, with dealers promising unrestricted deliveries of the machines to UK customers! In this final scan we see a news item on the official announcement about the new Caterpillar Glasgow factory from around February 1956. We thank Roy for sharing these historic pieces of Caterpillar dealers literature with us on the Digger Man Blog.
