Digging deep into construction machinery news

Caterpillar medley in Malaga

During “stick time” I spent a short period of time on Caterpillars new 374F LME hydraulic excavator. This machine features a Cat C.15 Tier 4 emissions compliant engine which produces 352kw (479hp) and has an operating weight of 70,970kgs. I wasn’t invited to dig with this machine, but did spend some quality digging time on its bigger brother the new 390F, which you can read all about in an upcoming edition of Earthmovers Magazine. I also got to spend some time on Caterpillars latest compact radius offering in the 14 tonne class, the 314E LCR. This machine was on display with the familiar central European triple boom option, which is a cracking piece of kit, offering the operator far more scope and versatility during the course of his work. Having just spent some time on the big 374F, and 390F models, this machine had a far more familiar feel for me personally. This machine was incredibly smooth machine to operate, was quick, agile, and had the added bonus of a dozer blade for rapid backfilling operations. One of the best-selling 8 tonners in the UK market last year was Caterpillars 308E model, due in some part to some extremely competitive deals that have been on offer from the Cat Compact Dealerships around the country, and the customers wanting to provide their clients with the latest in Cat midi excavator technology. This latest offering is the upgraded 308E-2 model featuring a Tier 4 engine. I will also be covering my stick time experience on this machine in a future edition of the magazine. Also on show in Malaga were the latest C series ADT’s including the 725C and 730C models. I got hands on with the 730C the next day in Malaga and will cover my experience here on the blog in the coming weeks. Thanks again to the team in Malaga for the kind hospitality we were shown during the visit.
