Caterpillar’s D3 dozer is a Turkish tourist attraction (Blog Post Re-Visited)

The Rahmi M. Koc museum first opened its doors 20 years ago in 1994 and the impressive collection is devoted to the history of industry and transport. The museum is home to an incredible tally of over 13,500 items and includes over 100 historical vehicles. Amongst this collection are a couple of Caterpillar tractors with one model from the 1950’s currently undergoing restoration, prior to going on display. The other Cat in the collection is a newer D3 model , serial number 79U1690 which I think you will agree is in excellent condition. This fine example of the smallest dozer in the Caterpillar range since the discontinuation of the D2 was manufactured in 1972 which was also the launch year for the model. The machine weighs in at 4.8 tonnes and is powered by a 62hp Caterpillar 3204 diesel engine. It featured a powershift transmission with 3 forward and 1 reverse gears. The machine is also equipped with a power angle blade and 5 tyne ripper on the back. This particular machine was donated to the museum in 2005 by Borusan Makina. This museum looks like a fantastic place. If I am ever in Istanbul again in the future it will definitely be on my bucket list for a visit.
