Cats and water don’t mix

The bogged Caterpillar 215 in this photo used to belong to the famous Appledore Shipyard, and was often deployed into the River Torridge to clear silt build up during low tide. Sadly on this occasion the machine suffered a breakdown and could not be retrieved before the incoming tide. Fortunately in those days machines were not so reliant on computer systems so they were not faced with such an expensive repair bill. At the next low tide one of Coles Plant’s Cat 320B models, was deployed into the river to dig around the 215 and to drag the machine back on to terra firma. We thank Coles Plant for sharing these "old school" photos with us here on the Digger Man Blog.
