Cat’s first ever hydraulic excavator the 225

The Caterpillar 225 was the first model of the 200 series and was officially launched in 1972. However Caterpillar had started to develop the machine some years earlier resulting in a prototype model designated the 625XI being revealed in 1970 which featured a right hand side cab, similar to earlier UK models like the Hymac and JCB. EPSON MFP image The 225 was a 100% Cat built product and featured a Caterpillar 3160 engine of some 125hp. The 200 series continued to develop over the coming years with the 235 being launched in 1973 and the 245 a year later in 74. In the following video we see a Caterpillar demonstrator putting the machine through its paces at the so called Power Parade in 1973 in America.
