Classic Wimpey Cat kit caught on camera

I have recently become connected to a number of other ex-Wimpey employees on a social media channel and it’s been great to see some of the material that they have been sharing. Some of this archive material is classic Digger Man Blog fodder and so I’m delighted to be able to share it with you all. img_2473 The action in this You Tube clip which was originally posted by Top Totter features some grainy 35mm cinefilm taken in 1963 during the construction of the M2 motorway between Strood, Chatham and Gillingham in Kent where Wimpey’s were the main contractors. The clip includes footage of classic Cat D8 and D9 track type tractors working with scraper boxes in what looks to be some sticky ground. Also of note in the video are some Terex TS24 motor scrapers which appear to have been resprayed from the more familiar Wimpey yellow to Wimpey Brunswick green.
Enjoy the footage and I hope to be bringing more archive Wimpey photos and footage to the blog over the coming year.
