CONEXPO LIVE: Liebherr

Liebherr has taken up more than 53,000ft2 of room at this year’s CONEXPO-CON/AGG - and with good reason. The manufacturer is celebrating 50 years in the USA, so has tried to stand out from the crowd. Walking round the impressive exhibit, we’d say the company has succeeded.

Highlights include Liebherr’s new-generation crawler excavators, the series made up of seven models ranging from 22 to 45 tonnes: R 922, R 924, R 926, R 930, R 934, R 938 (pictured top) and R 945. Significantly, the R 926 and R 938 are making their debuts in America. Improvements over the old models include more engine power, a heavier counterweight for higher bucket capacities, and a re-designed boom for better performance and equipment forces with reduced operating weight.

Liebherr is also displaying four wheel loaders at CONEXPO, including an L 566 XPower (see above) with power-split travel drive, which is standard on the firm’s larger wheel loaders, plus brand new assistance systems such as active personnel detection, adaptive working lighting, an integrated tire pressure monitoring system and the weighing system with Truck Payload Assist. The L 566 in Las Vegas also has a new joystick steering arrangement, and is accompanied by Liebherr’s biggest wheel loader of all, the 32.6-tonne L 586 XPower.

Not to be outdone by that massive machine is Liebherr’s new-generation PR736 crawler dozer (below), plus two new cranes for the American market: the LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane and LR 1800-1.0 crawler crane. Other highlights at the Liebherr booth include the company’s latest D976 in-line diesel engine, a 110 D-K crawler concrete pump, A 920 Litronix wheeled excavator and A 922 Rail Litronic rail-road excavator.
