CRUSHING TRAILER

Oxfordshire-based NAP Grab Hire has taken delivery of a custom-built 85-tonne gross weight, five-axle, extending step-frame Andover trailer, which will primarily be used to transport large tracked crushers and screeners around the UK.

In order to accommodate longer machines, the 14.95m step-frame can extend by a further 2.5m via two outer box beams, yet still support the machine directly under the tracks. The trailer is fitted with five 12-tonne rated BPW axles, of which three are fixed, two feature self-tracking steering, while the rear axle can also be raised from the truck’s cab. BPW air suspension with raise/lower control is also fitted. The trailer is configured with a low-profile neck and heavy-duty hydraulic power toe ramps that provide a low loading angle, alongside four hydraulic steady legs.

The new addition to their transport fleet will be pulled by one of NAP’s 6x4 Scania tractor units. It is estimated that the trailer will clock up between 70,000 and 80,000 miles a year and have a life expectancy of up to 15 years.
